Lake Pellaifa This project is located, according to the Chilean tourist guide "Turistel", in the 10th Region (between Temuco and Valdivia) and most specifically in Sector C "Seven Lakes" N°2 "Circuit to hot springs behind the volcanoes". Irregular shaped Lake Pellaifa is 5 kilometers long and on average 1.5 kilometers wide. It is only possible to reach the lake by car along the sandy fluvials that allow for water drainage. The rest of the area is made up of steep slopes full of native vegetation. The northern slopes are comprised of 30 to 100 meter high cliffs and the southern slopes, while not quite vertical, are very close and are on average 400 meter high. Only three beaches exist in the region, but they are, quite simply, spectacular. One exception to these general characteristic is found in the northern slope region where a small plateau (1.95 hectares) 15 meters above the lake level and with an access ramp to the lake exists. This platform is connected by an inclined road about 250 meters long to a higher plateau where small agricultural farms with paths connecting with the main road from Coñaripe to Liquiñe can be found. In addition, no houses exist surrounding the lake and no drainage system carrying contaminated waters feed into it. This leaves Lake Pellaifa absolutely clean and a crystalline deep blue. |
